The beauty tech you need to know about
Tue, 13 December 2016 12:18PM
For a while there, you could only get professional results when it came to beauty treatments from visiting a salon. But technology has come a long way in the last couple of years, and where once innovative tech was purely for trained professional use, now brands have figured out ways to harness it and deliver it to consumers in safe, yet efficient, forms. Whether it’s the skincare space, hair styling made easy, even at-home pedicure magic – there’s a tool for everyone here.
LightStim For Wrinkles
LED light therapy is one of the buzziest skincare treatments in market right now – and while the professional grade treatment is genuinely amazing, you can get similar results at home with the LightStim. Harnessing the restorative power of LED, the LightStim is designed to be used daily over a period of months to visibly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It’s painless, easy to use, and can be introduced into your skincare routine with zero fuss – you can even get your daily LightStim fix while you’re watching tv, because it’s so portable.
The Foreo Luna is pretty revolutionary – it’s essentially both a skin cleansing tool, and an anti-ageing device in one. From a cleansing perspective, the Luna’s T-sonic pulsations (which cause it to vibrate) help remove dead skin cells, unclog pores and remove dirt and makeup. The lower-frequency pulsations work deeper to give a firmer, more lifted look to skin as well as visibly reduce lines and wrinkles. It’s simple to use – just add face cleanser to your skin as you would when normally cleansing, then gently massage the Luna across skin.
Scholl Velvet Smooth Wet & Dry Hard Skin Foot File
The Scholl Velvet Smooth was a huge hit when it launched a few years back – if you weren’t across it originally, the filing tool was battery run, featuring a pumice barrel that rotated at full speed, easily sloughing off dead skin from heels and soles of feet. Because it worked so quickly and efficiently, it went off sales-wise – so now the range has expanded, to include a nail file tool and this latest innovation, a wet and dry version of the original. What’s brilliant about this is you can now get your cracked heels under control in the bath or shower – and we all know dead skin (yuck!) is removed with even greater ease after being soaked.
Cloud Nine The Touch
The Touch has been on shelf for a couple of years now, but you might not be aware of just how unique it is. It taps on, so there’s no power switch – and will switch off if you don’t use it for half a minute. Does that sound annoying? It would be if The Touch didn’t have such rapid heating power. It’s ready to straighten in literal seconds – yes, seconds – meaning no waiting around for it to be at full power. It also means you can forget freaking out that you’ve left the straightener on when you leave the house – that 30 second power down has your back.
Clarisonic Alpha Fit
By now, you’d have to be living under a rock not to have heard of the Clarisonic Mia, or Mia Fit – cleansing brush devices that work to deeply clean skin, prepping it for your skincare products and generally giving a fresher, clearer appearance. Clarisonic have since moved into men’s skincare world with the Alpha Fit, a cleansing brush engineered specifically for mens skin. The brush works to loosen dirt and oil, much like the original Clarisonic brushes – but also helps to prep skin for a smoother, closer shave. Guys often deal with ingrowns and nicks from shaving, which are generally caused by clogged pores or uneven skin texture. This combats all of that.
GHD Curve Classic Wave Wand
When GHD released their collection of curling wands a few years back, this was the one that generated the most response. The reason is its shape. Unlike most traditional curling wands, the wave wand is oval-shaped – and creates perfect waves, not curls. Anyone who has tried to master beachy, relaxed waves with a conical wand knows it’s usually a case of creating curls and hoping they drop a bit. With this, you get the look you wanted immediately.
This anti-ageing tool isn’t exactly NEW technology, but this is probably the first you’ve ever heard of it! The unique facial massaging device is certainly having a moment in beauty – and why wouldn’t it be! It’s affordable, totally luxe, and easy to use. Rolling one of these across your skin helps to promote blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, resulting in firmer, toned skin. It’s also genius for use alongside your skin serums and moisturiser.
This has to be the most talked about hair appliance of 2016, right? Everyone sat up and took notice when Dyson announced they were taking all their innovative advances in the home-wares world and bringing it to hair care. Enter the Dyson Supersonic, a high-powered miracle maker – yep, we tried it and loved it so much we wrote an entire article about it. The magic is in it’s use of a lower heat to generate superior results, combined with high velocity airflow to dry hair faster. Some people will even attest that it styles and dries all at the same time.
BaByliss Homelight IPL System
Home-use IPL hair removal systems aren’t new – but they’ve never been so easy to use. The BaByliss Homelight syncs with your smart phone to guide you through the often tricky process of IPL hair removal, allowing you to also keep track of your treatments and the areas you’ve been working on. It promises a 90% reduction in hair, which is pretty amazing!
