The best celebrity haircuts, and how to get them for yourself

We’ve all been there – you take a pic of the celebrity whose hair you’ve lusted over since time began to your hairdresser, say “I want THIS”, and then leave with what’s essentially a glorified mullet. WHY!? Hairdresser miscommunication is probably the top cause for tears over haircuts worldwide (by the way, here’s what to do and say to AVOID said tears for general, run of the mill cuts), so to combat this ~life tragedy~, we gave Tarryn Cherniayeff, founder and director of MOB Hair, a selection of our offices favourite celeb cuts of 2016 and asked her what we should be saying to get the exact look.
Emily’s no-fuss cut is the dream of low maintenance girls who still want amazing hair. “Ask for medium length, with internal layers”, says Tarryn.
Amandla’s ‘fro is a Pinterest fave. “To get Amandla’s style, ask for a round cut with uneven textures”, says Tarryn.
Girls with curls lust after Lorde’s cut, because it keeps the fullness without that awkward “triangle” shape long curls can get. “This is long layers with wispy ends,” says Tarryn.
“This is simply long layers with long bangs”, says Tarryn of J Lo’s coveted haircut. The long bangs is key – that’s how you get the relaxed parted look, as opposed to a heavy, straight-across fringe.
Khloe’s recent lob took the internet by storm. Get it for yourself by asking for a “lob with soft graduation, and a blunt baseline”, says Tarryn. “In my salon you can literally just ask for the Khloe and we’ll know exactly what you’re after!”.
Elizabeth has enviable, natural-looking layers that give great definition when they’re tonged. “Ask for a medium length cut with soft layering, and wispy ends,” says Tarryn.
Obsessed with Lucy’s lob? Tarryn says it’s “a lob with internal layers, and a blunt baseline”.
